Pilot Compost Program
In January 2025, Canyonlands Solid Waste Authority (CSWA) was awarded a grant through the USDA for the “Moab Food Waste Diversion & Pilot Compost Program”. Through this program, CSWA will expand local community access to commercial composting by composting organics and food waste. While operations have not begun at this time (November 2025), CSWA staff is currently preparing through extensive compost operations training. By the end of the grant performance period (February 2027), we hope to have certified bagged and bulk compost available for purchase as well as expanding our Green Waste Reclamation Program to include screened mulch. This program will be open to the public for both residents and commercial business. CSWA would like to extend its deep appreciation to Moab City and USU: Extension for their assistance in the development of the grant and collaboration during the grant performance period. We are thrilled to bring this opportunity to the Moab valley and surrounding communities.
