The finish line is in sight! We’ve received confirmation from the manufacturers that our composting unit is in production with a tentative delivery date of the 2nd week of October. Per the manufacturer, our unit’s drums and frame are ready with rollers on order. That means Moab is one step closer to a commercial composting operation that provides a myriad of benefits to the community! Just a quick refresher:
- The concrete pad at Moab Landfill has be poured and is currently setting
- Electric has been subbed in and is ready for connection
- A commercial food waste generator has been identified and efforts to establish collection methods are being explored
- Smart organics/food waste collection bins are being considered for community drop-off
These are all exciting developments and we’d like to extend our appreciation to our composting partners, the City of Moab and USU: Moab Extension, for their assistance in this pilot program! Once the composter is on-site, a special community event will be held so keep a lookout for that announcement.
